Kiwanis Clubs hook kids on fishing
The Division 21 Kiwanis Clubs held their 9th annual Fishing Day for kids at the James River Fishing Pier. The event has grown over the years from 32 children its first year to 227 this year. The kids got a chance to spend several hours fishing with help from the adults on hand, and were treated to a nice cookout afterwards.
Angie Lowry of Interiors by Decorating Den and President of the Smithfield Kiwanis Club was chauffeured via golf cart by Wesley Brown, founder of the annual event.
Peter Lowry of Interiors by Decorating Den assisted Brannon Wilkes of Smithfield with a tangled bottom rig.
Warren Brooks of Suffolk and Harry Spier of Chesapeake made sure that the kids had working fishing rods.
KeAsya Baker, a participant in the Genesis Summer Enrichment Program in Franklin, proudly displayed the croaker she caught.
Kim Rollings and Deborah Miniard of Chesapeake volunteered to help with the day's festivities.
Andrew Hiles helped Alyssa Smith, of Franklin display the fish she landed, one of the bigger catches of the day.
Peter Lowry of Smithfield really seemed to enjoy helping the kids improve their fishing skills.
